Weeds

Speech by Cllr Jim Moley delivered to County Council on Tue 6th Nov 2007

Weeds and failure to clear them have an adverse impact on community pride and community vitality and also on the structure of highways and buildings.

Weeds are highly visible manifestations of the reduced services arising from the Tory administration's low tax ticket at election time.

As regards social and other services, these effects are more tragic.

In Wantage I am informed that the Chamber of Commerce paid this year for town centre spraying. This, of course, is double taxation on them and an extra burden on small businesses and hard-pressed retailers.

In previous years, Tory leaflets in my division used to major on weeds on footpaths and highways. I have cherished copies of them. No doubt local Tories will endorse my seconding of this motion.
