Lib Dems Call on Cameron for Transparency

4.15.00pm GMT Thu 3rd Dec 2009

Oxfordshire Liberal Democrats have written to the Rt Hon David Cameron MP, Leader of the Conservative Party, asking him for transparency on Conservative policies on climate change, in advance of the Copenhagen summit.

The letter, sent at the end of last week, asks Mr Cameron - who is also an Oxfordshire MP - to explain his party's national stance on the 10:10 commitment to reduce carbon emissions, given that the local Conservative controlled County Council rejected this commitment recently.

Cllr. Zoe Patrick, Leader of the Opposition said "David Cameron has pledged to a 10% cut in carbon emissions, but his Conservative colleagues on Oxfordshire County Council do not appear to agree that action starts locally. Although he was photographed at a high profile launch at County Hall to cut emissions by 18% by 2012, we have seen no evidence that this will happen. Indeed the County Council is not on target to deliver this, as recent Cabinet papers have indicated. We would like to see that words are matching real action on the ground."
